The Graphics, Imaging, and Games Lab is holding an open house on Thursday, Oct 1, from 1:30 to 3:30. All are welcome! Come by to see informal demos of our ongoing research related to computer graphics, image processing, and computer games, meet current graduate students in the lab, and talk with computer graphics professors about future honors projects or graduate studies. There might be cookies. You can find us in HP 5317.
Congratulations to Jay on Completing His Masters!
gigl-admin — September 24, 2015 - 8:58am
Lab member Jiayu Li recently submitted Masters thesis entitled Edge-preserving Image Upsampling and Image Warping. His work focuses on the reconstruction of sharp edges on upsampled image plane through filtering-based techniques and pixel migration. He also proposed a warping mechanism for painterly rendering.

GIGL Welcomes Assistant Professor Oliver van Kaick
gigl-admin — September 30, 2014 - 1:00am
GIGL welcomed Assistant Professor Oliver van Kaick, who joined Carleton University as a faculty in the Fall of 2014. Before that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Tel Aviv University and Simon Fraser University. He received his Ph.D. from the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University in 2011. Oliver's research interests lie in computer graphics, including topics such as shape analysis, shape matching, and geometric modeling.
GIGL at Graphics Interface
gigl-admin — May 20, 2014 - 3:48pm
Present and former GIGL members attended Graphics Interface 2014 in Montreal. Hua Li received the Alain Fournier award, previously announced; Chujia Wei presented her paper on coordinated particle systems; and Maryam Ariyan's poster was recognized with the Best Graphics Poster award and a prize of a Dell tablet. Also of interest was the CHCCS lifetime achievement award, given this year to Eugene Fiume; Eugene was David Mould's PhD supervisor.
Lab Member Hua Wins Best Thesis Award
gigl-admin — March 24, 2014 - 10:44am
GIGL graduate Hua Li is the recipient of the prestigious Alain Fournier award for the best computer graphics dissertation in Canada in 2013. The award will be presented at Graphics Interface 2014 in Montreal in May. Hua's work concentrated on image stylization, producing beautiful halftoning, stippling, and line drawing effects (see her thesis here). Hua previously won the Michael A. J. Sweeney award for best student paper at Graphics Interface in 2010, and her paper on continuous-line drawing was an honorable mention for the best paper award at ARTECH 2012.
